Beware of Pop-up Experts

If you have seen the term “faceless marketing” on your preferred social platform, you are not the only one. Over the last few months, digital marketing “experts” have exploded on social media. As someone who did not start with a formal education in digital marketing, I feel compelled to tell you the signs of new digital marketers.

It is an amazing occurrence to have so many interested in digital marketing. This can affect how much help micro businesses like yours can access over the next few years.

However, there is a buyer beware that must happen, and that is not taking place to educate you as a buyer.

Many of these “experts” are not experts at all. These are newly interested internet marketers using private label rights (PLR) products to attract buyers like you or even larger small businesses. This is a dangerous game for your business as many are set up to make sales but will lack in strategic thinking in future consultations. This has already been a problem as smaller businesses are being charged expert prices for consultation sessions only to realize the “expert” could not dive in deeper with them based on their needs.

This has become the game of the knock-off marketers. Unfortunately, smaller businesses and entrepreneurial businesses are easier targets for new marketers. If someone is calling themselves an expert, feel free to request two important resources:

  • Portfolio

  • Reviews

If an expert cannot provide these two resources, you may be dealing with someone who is new in their digital marketing career. That is okay, but falsifying expertise will never be alright as it can take resources and time away from growing your business.

If you are a progressive business owner and do not mind working with new marketers specializing in digital efforts, then look for these three things before working with them:

  • The year they started in digital marketing (0-2 years is still considered unseasoned)

  • Professionalism (decent social branding & easy access to their services)

  • They focus on one area of digital marketing
